The apple paradise in the heart of South Tyrol - Südtirol

The geographical center of South Tyrol - Südtirol is traditionally a paradise for apples. This exact area is the location of the largest single fruit-producing area in Europe - the VOG growing area. On about 200 square kilometers stretching along the banks of the Etsch from Salurn to Burggrafenamt, the finest fruit grows. A smaller growing area is located near Brixen.

These regions have the ideal climate for excellent harvests and highest product quality. The orchards, at altitudes between 200 and 1,000 meters, nurture a wide range of varieties of South Tyrolean apples. The 300 days of sun every year guarantee ripe and succulent fruit of excellent flavour.

However, all these natural climatic gifts would be nothing without the unique quality of the soil that benefits the apple production in this area. Our trees grow in light or medium-heavy soil that has a low proportion of clay and relatively high levels of fine and coarse sands. This is a well-aerated growing medium, in which biologically valuable microorganisms can also flourish.

Thus, nature created the best possible environment for VOG’s 10.900 hectare growing area. And, of course, for the development of fresh, juicy apple varieties, like Golden Delicious, Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Braeburn, Fuji, Cripps Pink and many more.
